PROJECT TYPE

Visual Identity

The Boys & Girls Club of Central Orange Coast requested our assistance in creating visual themes for each of its four facilities (Santa Ana, Costa Mesa, Newport Beach, and Irvine). Each club will have a distinct design concept with the goal of inspiring, motivating, and instilling the value of individuality in every child. With only a month to complete this project, I promptly began working with Chief Executive Officer Robert Santana to make his vision a reality.

The Different Themes

Our client wanted to ensure each club had a theme that factored some of the history of each city they corresponded to. Each wall design has a goal to inspire, motivate and pursue the message of uniqueness for each child that walks in.

Adjustments had to be made into my design process in order to adapt with the limited time I had. I quickly started by creating a mood board to reassure the client and myself that we are in an agreement of the idea and style they were going for to avoid any time being wasted.

Costa Mesa

Costa Mesa’s Boys and Girls Club is their longest standing charter in Orange County. Our client wanted to approach the design with something more abstract and simple to complement their modern / mid-century renovations.

Santa Ana

Santa Ana’s Boys and Girls Club is the second oldest charter in their lineup. Our client wanted to match Santa Ana’s urban population with a combination of imagery and text. The artwork for this club was the most challenging of the 4 since we had to switch over to die-cut graphics rather than whole wraps due to the high ceiling walls. As a result, this required me to work around the decor on the wall and precisely measure each section to avoid any obstruction of the graphics.

Once the artwork is completed, things now become intricate. Since each diecut graphic was to large to print on a 60” wide format printer, I had to split the artwork into sections and create a guideline for the vinyl installers in order to execute a flawless installation with minimal error.

Installation Process

After every design, I work closely with the installation team to ensure everything is placed correctly and matches the proof we sent to the client prior to installation. See them in action in this time lapse recorded by the Superior Signs team!

Restrooms

Rather than having a mirror, our client wanted to continue the message of inspiration and encouragement to the kids of the club.

Hallway

Our client later came back to us to finalize the artwork for the hallway that was being constructed at that time.

Donor Wall

Each club operates with the help of generous donors. To honor them, our client wanted to create a unique interior signage that recognized each and every donor for their contribution.

Newport Beach

Boys & Girls Club of Newport Beach has been an essential part of the community since 1971 and our client wanted to convey the coastal vibe of Newport into the graphics.

Irvine

The Boys and Girls Club of Irvine is the newest charter in their lineup. Developing the youth’s skills to reach their greatest potential since the 1980s. The client wanted to dig deep into the history of Irvine and incorporate a retro/vintage style throughout the club.

Featured on Live TV

The Boys and Girls Club of Costa Mesa and Newport were featured on Fox 11’s Good Day LA where my artwork got a chance to be displayed on national television.

This was by far (and still is) the largest and most rewarding project I’ve done. Not to mention that I only had a month to complete the entire thing. Overall, it was a pleasure working with Robert Santana and every member at the Boys & Girls Club of Central Orange Coast. Each wall was designed with the purpose to inspire, motivate and relay the importance of self-uniqueness for generations to come.
